Our Story

LKA Recruitment was established three years ago when Liz took the decision to open on her own, with assistance from Kathy, Amanda and Helen, who all having founded or worked for another independent agency, have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the Recruitment industry, especially in the Colchester and Essex/Suffolk areas. This experience together with the experience and expertise that their new Consultants have brought to the business has allowed LKA Recruitment to move forward with energy and enthusiasm, helping many Candidates find the perfect position and Clients the best Candidate for the job.

LKA is a modern Agency with old fashioned values, between us we have over 100 years in the Recruitment Industry our knowledge is second to none, we believe in giving our Candidates and Clients a professional and personal service, finding out their exact requirements, this enables us to match candidate to client.

About Us

Our aim at LKA Recruitment is to assist Candidates in finding their perfect job! We work in a variety of Specialist Sectors, which enables us to help every Job Seeker achieve their goal. We pride ourselves in the quality of care given to each Candidate during their search for work.

We prefer carrying out face-to-face interviews with Candidates (whenever possible) as this gives us the opportunity to build up a mutual rapport and gain a more in-depth idea of their individual requirements. Besides which it’s nice to put a face to a name!

N.B. LKA Recruitment deals with both Temporary and Permanent Placements – Speaking of which, now we come to another equally important aspect of our work, supplying valued Clients with eminently suitable Candidates; Candidates who satisfy all the requirements specified by the Client. The Client expects “a good fit” and so do we!

We get to know our Clients just as we get to know our Candidates; their likes, dislikes, traits, etc., and have known many Clients over a number of years, so are consequently well prepared to satisfy their individual job requirements.

Meet The Team

Liz Mullenger


I have been working in Recruitment for over 25 years and have been working with Kathy all that time! I started work as a Junior Consultant, then over the years ran the Industrial and Commercial Divisions and am now the Director of LKA Recruitment, which due to the great team we have is proving very successful.

Three years ago I took the decision to open my own Agency, LKA Recruitment. With assistance from Kathy, Amanda and Helen, plus our wealth of experience (which we enjoy passing on to new team members) it enables us to go from strength to strength, growing ever more successful.

Like most companies Covid-19 caused us a lot of disruption; however, we all pulled together to work through the Pandemic, looking out for each other during difficult times.  We strive to give the best service we can to all our Candidates and Clients and always go the extra mile if they need a little help.

We feel our success at LKA is due to our experience in Recruitment and the fact we have colleagues that we enjoy both working and socialising with, as we believe in working hard to achieve our goals.  We enjoy spending leisure time together, culminating in our trip to Las Vegas next year which we are all looking forward to! We also enjoy small events, plus sometimes just having a breakfast in the Office, which helps to keep us going when the pressure is on!

Kathy Ovens

Senior Consultant

Having founded and built up a well-known Colchester Agency over a 40-year period, the challenge of once again being part of a team building another very successful Independent Agency has been a great thrill.

It has been so nice working with a team of all ages who genuinely look out for each other and enjoy working and playing together. We are all really looking forward to the trip to Las Vegas next year and the gamblers in the team (me being one of them) are saving our spending money already!

Although senior in age to some of the team, they keep me young, and I still get a thrill out of placing Candidates in both Permanent and Temporary bookings. If I decide to come back from Las Vegas!!! I know next year is going to continue to be as exciting and successful as the past three years have been since the start of LKA Recruitment!

Amanda Doyland

Driving Manager

I’ve been working in Recruitment for over 25 years, across many Divisions, including Care, Industrial and Driving. However, I have specialised in Driving Recruitment for over the past 15 years which I have thoroughly enjoyed! I love working with my Clients and matching the most suitable Candidate to their requirements. It is a massive thrill working within a new Agency where the future is bright and exciting.

During the Pandemic it was overwhelming to see how our work was helping people get back into work, it will be something that I won’t forget.

This year I’m celebrating my 50th birthday which I am sure I can make last for the whole of December! Next year we will be going to Las Vegas, I’m just hoping I can keep up with everybody, gambling and sunbathing!

When I’m not working my 2 Westies, Smirnoff and Brandi are my great love! A Westie loving friend and I organise Westie walks for Colchester and raise money for a Westie Charity; we can see anything up to 90 Westies on our walks, which are proving to be more and more popular!

Morgan Rampling

Junior Driving Consultant

I am a Junior Recruitment Consultant at LKA Recruitment and have just passed my Recruitment Consultant Level 2 exam.

Since leaving school I jumped straight into a Business Administration and ICT Apprenticeship; once completed I decided I wanted to find something more challenging and in October 2019 I found LKA Recruitment where I work alongside Amanda on the busy Driving Division,

Amanda has shown me the ropes within Driving Recruitment and has supported me every step of the way and taught me to believe in myself. Outside of work I enjoy finding adventurous things to do with my partner and friends and spending time with my Cat, Shadow.

Andrew Johnson

Healthcare Consultant

Having spent a long part of my career in the Financial Markets I changed careers to the recruitment industry over two years ago and specialised in Medical Recruitment hiring Doctors, Nurses and Support Workers for some the of the country’s most prestigious Private Healthcare Institutions.

My time with the team at LKA Recruitment, has certainly been as exciting as in the Financial Markets and just as rewarding.

I am a big fan of rock and classical music and a certain London based football team!

Josh Aubrey

Consultant & Social Media/Marketing

I have worked with team at LKA Recruitment since I was 17, originally doing temp work whilst studying at Cambridge University for my Law Degree. I am now working full time in the office working alongside Stephanie doing the social media and marketing, since we started we have improved our reach by over 1200%.

I have also been trained as a consultant and enjoy working alongside Liz and Kathy helping with the Industrial and Commercial Divisions, which have grown tremendously over the past 3 years. Dealing with both clients and candidates is very different every day which I really enjoy.

In my free time I like to take my dogs for walks, I play five a side football in a league with my friends which helps to keep me fit.

Stephanie Von-Gunten

Social Media & Marketing

I have been with LKA since they were founded, I had also worked with the team previously.

I am one of the marketing and social media team and I really enjoy using my creativity to produce fun and exciting content. While working for LKA, I have graduated from King’s College London with a BSc in Geography as well as graduating from The University of Law with a Masters in Law.

I love my dog and travelling and am very excited to be working for such a rapidly growing company.

Jan Peters

Sales Co-Ordinator

I am the newest member of the team at LKA, I am the Sales Co-Ordinator for the company, I have developed some new structures for the business already, I am enjoying the challenge.

I have excellent communication skills with a caring and understanding manner and have extensive experience in working in a Sales environment from Sales Administrator to Office Manager at the Head Office of Lloyds Bank and have a flexible approach to everything I do.

My downtime is spent with my puppy Golden Retriever, Ronnie. Taking him on long walks in the forest and down by the river.

I love playing pool and snooker and sometimes let my husband win too, but only occasionally!

Helen Clark MAAT

Accounts Manager

I have been the Accounts Manager at LKA since its launch in November 2018. With over 28 years’ experience in the Accounting field (the majority of this within the Recruitment Industry) the last 2 years have certainly been the most testing. “What doesn’t break us makes us stronger” Although harsh, this quote is usually true.. The Accounts Department continues to grow (with the business) at a rapid rate and I look forward to embracing all the challenges this has to offer.

The team at LKA work hard but just as equally play hard! With several special birthdays coming up next year I look forward to our visit to Las Vegas which should hopefully bring some exciting and inspirational opportunities. I think the Stratosphere Rollercoaster may be a step too far for me though!!😊

Karen Emery MAAT

Accounts Assistant

I was one of the first additions to the LKA Team, joining as an Accounts Assistant in February 2019.
Though new to the field of Recruitment at the time, I had worked in various Finance roles within the Public Sector for over 30 years and what started as a 2-mornings a week role, has increased to 3-days a week, as LKA continues to grow.

I am a very social person and holds the position of LKA’s “Entertainments Manager” organising birthdays and other events for the Team.

Outside of LKA, I spend a large part of my time abroad, soaking up the sun and supping on a few cocktails, with special interest in Cyprus and the beautiful island of Kefalonia.
Long may this lifestyle continue!!!

Julie Lea

Accounts Assistant

I joined LKA Recruitment in August 2021. I have worked in accounts for many years in a Radio station. This is the first Recruitment company I have worked in, things are definitely fast paced here! No twiddling of my thumbs here but it is all good fun. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning new things and working with Helen and Karen who have been very patient with me. The company is very busy and I can certainly see why it has gone from strength to strength each year. I am so glad to be given the opportunity to thrive with them.

I also enjoy the added bonus, of all the cream cakes and full English breakfasts. I am sure my dress size has gone up but I am not complaining 😊.

Valerie Gamble

Part-Time Administrator

I am one of LKA Recruitments, part-time Administration team, I check the files to ensure that we are compliant, update our CRM system with all new candidates, I will assist with interviewing candidates for all the divisions if the need arises.

When I am in the office I enjoy that it is always busy and every day is different, the team work well together, even though it may get fraught at times, the end result is always positive.

I enjoy spending my free time (not that there is much of this) with my Grandchildren and socialising, this also helps to keep me young.

Christine Carter

Part-Time Administrator

I am one of the part-time Administration team for LKA Recruitment, along with Val I help to put everything on the CRM system, I am the office go to person for any spelling and grammatical queries, as I have to say some of them forget!!

I have worked with the team for many years now, going through many changes with them, it is a very fast paced environment but always lots of chocolate to keep me going.

Have you worked as a ‘360’ recruitment consultant before, with a proven track record in business/relationship development, are you able to hit financial targets, you will need to be ambitious and driven to get the results.

Must have a clean driving licence with no points pending
Must have a good knowledge of MS Office,
Must have a minimum of 2 years proven record as a Recruitment Consultant.

Competitive salary and uncapped commission structure.

Proven OTE £35,000.00 and above
